Carlo Ancelotti Denies Liverpool Talks Before Jurgen Klopp Appointment
Carlo Ancelotti has denied holding talks with Liverpool to exchange Brendan Rodgers in October, although the former Chelsea manager want to go back to the Premier League.
Ancelotti was apparently sounded out by Liverpool prior to the Anfield hierarchy hired Jurgen Klopp recently.
However the 56-year-old Italian – away after he was sacked by Real Madrid in the finish from the 2014-15 season – stated he didn’t consult with the Merseyside club.
“I must return to operate in England,” Ancelotti told the Daily Mail.
“I really like the football here, I have a home working in london, and I must be around a group that’s competitive in England as well as in Europe.
“I believe Liverpool make the perfect team. They’ve some great youthful players – [Philippe] Coutinho, [Roberto] Firmino, [Christian] Benteke. Whether they can locate an experienced player like [Steven] Gerrard or [Jamie] Carragher – a good example towards the squad – I believe they may be really competitive.
“But I didn’t consult with them. Basically spoken with them I’m able to say “yes”, but no, I didn’t.Inch
When requested if his advisors had spoken with Liverpool, Ancelotti added: “No. They provided the best appointment in Klopp.
“He’s a good manager. Using the best managers the thing is their identity within their team. Klopp’s [Borussia] Dortmund team were built with a quite strong identity.”
